We all have them. If we didn’t impulse buy them for a craft project we inherited them from our grandmas.
Glass jars are humble, commonplace and free with every jar of pickles. But a simple jar can be transformed with a small bit of yarn and your crochet skills.

Yarnspirations published the Mason Jar Cozie pattern a few years ago and I got permission to create a video tutorial for it. But why stop there? I’ve got tutorials for both right and left handed crocheters so you can see the full pattern from the proper perspective.
I love this pattern because the possibilities are endless and I always have a supply of Lily Sugar and Cream Yarn in my stash.
You may be saying, “But Kristen, what would do with a decked out jar?”
Instead of spending your hard earned money on expensive storage solutions you may have a gold mine hiding in your kitchen cupboards.
What size jar can you use?
Mason jars come in many sizes so Yarnspirations included patterns for three of the most common sized jars: half-pint (classic jelly jars), pint and quart.
I also included tips for customizing the pattern to a non-standard jar. (Remember those pickles?)
Need a vase? You’ve got one!
Mason jars make beautiful centerpieces. Okay, the ones in your cupboard right now may not, but these are stunning.
Decorative candle holders anyone?
The lacy pattern shines when you use your jar cozie as a candle holder. The flickering light shows off the colors of your cozie.
When you want to redecorate it’s as easy as crocheting a new set of jar cozies.
You have to know MY favorite use, right?
I love having my hooks and tools handy while I’m crocheting. Functional is great, but seeing them in tucked into a jar covered with yarn warms my heart.
Mason Jar Cozie Crochet Pattern
The pattern is available for download directly from Yarnspirations:
Yarn: In my video tutorial below I used Lily Sugar and Cream 100% cotton yarn in color Beach Glass.
Small Cozie – 25 yds. (23 m)
Medium Cozie – 40 yds. (36.5 m)
Large Cozie – 75 yds. (65.5 m)
Hook: Size F/5 (3.75 mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
I used a Furls Black Odessey hook in size G (4.25 mm) due to my tight tension.

Ch = Chain
Sl St = Slip stitch
Sc = Single crochet
Dc = Double crochet
Dcl = Double crochet cluster
Yoh = Yarn over hook
