NOTES
This project uses individual hexagons woven on a hexagon loom that are later sewn together. The hexagons are slightly longer than they are tall so be sure to line up the hexagons correctly so all sides seam smoothly.
The solid color hexagons use a single strand of yarn and the two-color one uses two strands (one of each color) held together.
I included 2 sample blanket sizes, but you can easily make this blanket any size. Use the blank design template below to plan your blanket.
- To lengthen/shorten the blanket: Each row measures approx. 5.325”. Add or subtract rows to reach your desired length.
- To make the blanket wider/narrower: Each column of hexagons adds approx. 5.125” to your total width. Add or subtract hexagons to reach your desired width.
Adding a border: You can make this blanket with or without a border. Without the border the hexagons create a zig-zag edge. If you prefer a smooth edge, add the border hexagons. These border shapes are made by folding a hexagon in half before seaming. Design schematics are shown both with or without the border.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Use one of the premade templates below or design your own using the blank template.
- Make all the hexagons needed for your blanket.
- Weave in ends or use them for seaming your hexagons.
- Lay out all your hexagons for the blanket first. Make sure that your hexagons are all aligned the same way. Your weave should line up straight across the scarf, not diagonally.
- Using a tapestry needle sew all hexagons together as shown in the tutorial video.
