I designed this pattern to go with my How to Crochet video series. This series is ideal for an absolute novice since I walk you through ALL the crochet basics. It’s important to have a project to help you master your new skill.
In Lesson 3 of the series, How to Double Crochet, I teach the basic mechanics of working the double crochet stitch. With any new skill practice makes perfect so I wrote a pattern to help you get that practice.
The Easy Basic Blanket is a versatile pattern and includes written instructions for 5 sizes and links to the fully captioned tutorial videos for both left and right handed crocheters.
But what if you want to make a blanket in a different size?
No problem! All you need to do is adjust the length of your beginning chain.

Yarn
Medium (#4) weight yarn
Premier Everyday Anti-Pilling (3.5 oz/100 g, 180 yds/165m) used in sample. 1 (4, 5, 13, 20) balls
Hook
US Size H (5 mm) hook
Furls Odyssey hook in Black & Nickel used in sample.
Tapestry needle
ABBREVIATIONS
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
st(s) = stitch(es)

GAUGE
14 sts x 8 rows in 4” (10 cm) in double crochet stitch
SKILL LEVEL Easy
MEASUREMENTS
Lovey: 12” x 12” (30.5 cm x 30.5 cm)
Car Seat: 22” x 30” (60 x 75 cm)
Stroller: 30″ x 35″ (75 x 87.5 cm)
Crib: 45″ x 60″ (112.5 x 150 cm)
Throw: 60″ x 70″ (150 x 175 cm)
NOTES
To resize this pattern simply lengthen or shorten your beginning chain and knit to the length you want.
INSTRUCTIONS
Chain 45 (87, 108, 160, 212).
Foundation Row: Dc into fourth chain from the hook. Dc in next chain to end of row.
Row 1: Ch 3, turn, dc in next st to end of row.
Repeat Row 1 until piece measures 12” (30”, 35”, 60”, 70”) or until desired length. Cut yarn, pull loop through and weave in ends.
