Inside: Learn to needle knit a bowl cozy with this free pattern including written instructions for 2 sizes and tutorial videos demonstrating the project.
The knit Bowl Cozy is perfect for protecting your hands.
If you’ve been to any craft fairs lately, you’ve seen quilted bowl cozies. I figured it was time to knit one up. Make all the things out of yarn!
They are great for microwaving a steaming hot bowl of soup that you can pick right up. But did you know you can use it for cold foods, too? It keeps your hands from freezing while enjoying a bowl of ice cream. They also make handy snack bowls. Line it with a paper napkin and put in a handful of chips or popcorn for family movie night.
Because this is such a quick project to knit, it makes an ideal gift for wedding showers, housewarmings or chili cook off prizes. (Hey, I’m a Texas gal!)
This design uses 4 triangles worked in garter stitch and shaped with increases and decreases. Then you seam the triangles using a 3 needle bind off. If that sounds intimidating, don’t worry! I’ve got a complete tutorial video for you to walk you through each step.
Pattern contains written instructions for 2 sizes and links to fully-captioned tutorial videos showing the entire project for both right and left handed knitters.

NOTES
This cozy is made by knitting 4 garter stitch triangles that are shaped with increases and decreases. These triangles are then seamed together using the 3 needle bind off method. If you prefer, you may use a whip stitch to seam the triangles.
INSTRUCTIONS
Triangles: (MAKE 4)
Cast on 3 sts.
Foundation Row: Knit 3.
Row 1: Kfb, k to end of row.
Repeat Row 1 until you have 32 (38) sts.
Before beginning the next row (RS), count 16 (19) sts [halfway] and place a marker. Also mark RS of knitting with locking stitch marker.
Row 2 (RS): Kfb, K to 2 sts before marker, k2tog, slip marker, ssk, k to end of row.
Row 3: Kfb, k to end of row.
Rep Rows 2-3 twice.
Bind off loosely.
NOTE: On 2 triangles leave a 1.5-2 yard tail for seaming. All other tails should be woven in before seaming.
Make 4 total.
Seaming:
Place the triangles RS up on table in front of you with bottom points toward the center and side edges lined up. (Your pieces should resemble a 4-leaf clover. See image below.)
Use long yarn tails to make 2 seams along side edges using the 3 needle bind off method. Weave in remaining tails.
