Inside: Crossed Cluster crochet blanket pattern with written instructions for 2 sizes (lap blanket & afghan) plus tutorial videos for both left and right handed crocheters.
Temperatures are dropping, but my crochet hooks are just heating up!
My daughter needed a cozy lap blanket to take along in the car so, of course, I had to make one. I’d just finished filming the tutorial for the Crossed Cluster stitch pattern and blanket square so I decided to use the stitch pattern for a full blanket.
I absolutely love that the stitch pattern is reversible. Each cluster creates a puffy bobble on both sides of the blanket. That makes it extra thick and warm.
I was also dying to try the Bernat Blanket O’Go yarn. Each skein… ball… donut… (whatever shape we want to call it) has 3 colors so adding stripes seemed like the natural way to go. Rather than make the stripes all the same, I varied how wide the stripes are to create an eye-catching design.
Since I wanted something to fit in the car or one of the chairs in our TV room, I made a narrow lap blanket that is perfect when we’re on the go. But I also added a wider size in case you want something to drape over your couch that’s always ready to grab on a chilly evening. (And because it’s reversible you don’t need to fold it so the right is showing. Hooray for low maintenance!)
As always I’ve got tutorial videos to show you how to not only make the stitch pattern, but change colors and even weave in the ends. The videos (see below) are fully captioned and available for both right and left handed crocheters.

Separate your O’Go yarn into 3 colors. I refer to these as Color A, B, and C below.

With Color A, chain 56 (95).
Foundation Row: Sc in 2nd ch from the hook and in each rem ch. Ch 3 (Counts as dc and throughout). Turn.
Crossed Clusters Stitch Pattern
Row 1 (RS): (1st sc belongs to previous ch 3). Sk next sc, CL in next sc. Working in front of CL just made, CL in skipped sc. Dc in next sc. Rep from across. Ch 1 and turn.
Row 2: Sc in each dc and CL across. Ch 3 and turn.
After the Foundation Row, use only Rows 1-2 for the remainder of the blanket following the Color Pattern below.
Color Changes
The color change actually takes place on the final row of the old color. On the last st of a Row 2, pull through NEW color on the last yarnover to change color. Chain 3 and turn with new color. Use this technique for all color changes. (See video links).
