So, what’s the one thing you almost ALWAYS do when knitting a hat?
You knit the brim with a smaller needle size than the rest of the hat. This cinches up the brim just a bit giving the hat a perfect snug fit.
That doesn’t always work out as planned as I found out when I knit my Beehive Waffle Hat. When I finished the hat and tried it on, much to my surprise the body of the hat was huge!
I made one of the classic blunders. The first, as we all know, is never get involved in a land war in Asia. But only slightly less well known is this: know the stitch pattern you’re working with!
I’d already knit up the flat panel of the beehive waffle stitch so I knew that it was VERY stretchy, but I didn’t take into account how that stretchiness would affect a pattern in the round. We’ll be chalking that up to a lesson learned the hard way.
But, as it often happens, my mistake became a happy accident!
Now you can choose which of the beehive waffle stitch hats you like best: Beanie or Beret?
The Beehive Beret is simply a roomier version of my Beehive Waffle Knit Hat. This textured stitch pattern has loads of stretch making it an easy transition to a beret. This knit hat features a ribbed brim, beehive waffle stitch body and decreased crown for a smooth top. I love both sides so I use mine as a reversible hat.
Pattern includes written instructions for 5 hat sizes from Baby to Adult Large, chart and links to fully captioned tutorial videos to help you make this hat.
